Admission to Honours / General / Major Course in Acharya Prafulla Chandra College:-

The admission sub-committee formulates rules for admission following the guidelines of the University.

Criteria for admission to degree courses (Honours, General) in Acharya Prafulla Chandra College:-

Admission Qualifications
A candidate may be admitted to the first year of three-year B.A./B.Sc.(Honours/General) or BBA (Hons.) Courses of Studies on passing H.S. (10+2) Examination in General or Vocational Stream conducted by West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent examination conducted by other State Board/Council, or Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya or National Open School recognized by the Distant Learning Council subject to the fulfilment of the conditions mentioned below :

A candidate seeking admission shall have to pass in the last qualifying examination in five recognised subjects of full marks not being less than 100 each of which one shall be English. A candidate passing in four subjects shall not be eligible to such admission to the course.

Marks obtained in top four subjects shall be considered to ascertain the aggregate marks of a candidate passing the examination under grade system. Also for candidates passing the H.S. (10+2) Examination from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education under old system, marks obtained in top four subjects shall be considered to determine the aggregate marks.

Marks obtained in Environmental Education as a compulsory subject at the H.S. (10+2) Examination conducted by the West Bengal Council of H.S. Education or its equivalent shall not be taken into account for calculating the aggregate marks in top four subjects for the purpose of admission at the degree course of studies under this University. However, ‘Environmental Science’ studied as an elective subject of 100 marks may be taken into account for calculating the aggregate marks.

Students of the (10+2) level passing out from the All India Boards/Councils (i.e. C.B.S.E., I.S.C. and National Institute of Open Schooling) need not submit the Migration certificate for getting registration under this University.

No candidate shall be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognised regular courses of study after passing the previous qualifying examination.

Explanation : The year of admission will not be taken into account while calculating 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination.

A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must obtain :

A minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. OR
55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. OR
50% marks in aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her previous qualifying examination provided all other clauses are satisfied.
However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribe community taking up Honours Course of study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examinations, as the case may be.

For the B. A. or B.Sc. (Honours, General and Major) Courses of studies, a candidate is required to choose his/her Honours and two/three elective subjects (for details, see, course offered).

However, A candidate shall be allowed to take up the subject(s) under heading ‘(A)’ if he/she has passed the subject(s) under heading ‘(B)’ at the previous qualifying examination.

Some special conditions for admission to Honours Courses in Economics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Microbiology, Education, Philosophy, Anthropology, Botany and Zoology :

Economics : A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Economics if he/she has passed in Mathematics at the H.S. Examination (10+2) conducted by West Bengal Council of H.S. Education or its equivalent examination in Mathematics/Business Mathematics of ISC. Students who passed Business Economics including Business Math in H. S. (10+2) level from W.B. Council of H.S. Education are not eligible for admission in the Honours Course in Economics.

Mathematics : A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Mathematics if he/she has passed in Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination. However, a candidate who has passed Business Mathematics is not eligible for admission to Mathematics Honours Course.

Chemistry :A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Chemistry if he/she has passed Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination.

Microbiology :A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Microbiology if he/she has passed the subject Physiology/Biology/Bio-technology and Chemistry in the previous qualifying examination.
Subject Combination offered for Microbiology in the College :Chemistry and any one of the following subjects : a) Physics, b) Zoology

Philosophy :The suject Psychology be treated as a related subject.

Anthropology :The subject Biology be treated as a related subject. A candidate shall not be allowed to take up Anthropology along with Sociology.

Botany :The subject Biology/Biotechnology be treated as a related subject.

Zoology :The subject Biology/Biotechnology be treated as a related subject.

The Criteria for Admission to B.A. & B. Sc. (Major) Degree Course:

A candidate who secures a minimum of 45% marks in the aggregate at the H.S. (10+2) or in an equivalent examination shall be eligible for admission to B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. (Major) Degree Course of Studies provided he/she has passed the said examination with 5 recognised subjects of which at least one is English carrying not less than 100 as full marks.
However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe community taking up Major Course of study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examinations, as the case may be.

Criteria for some Honours Courses prescribed by the college:-

If a student wants to take Honours in Electronics or Computer Science, he/she must secure at least 45% marks in both Physics & Mathematics of full marks not being less than 100 each in the last qualifying examination. If a student wants to take a Honours in Physics, he/she must secure at least 45% marks in Mathematics of full marks not being less than 100 in the last qualifying examination. If a student wants to take up Honours in Chemistry he/she must secure at least 40% marks in both physics and Mathematics of full marks not being less than 100 each in the last qualifying examination.

A student willing to take Zoology / Botany Honours must have Chemistry as a subject in H.S. or equivalent Examination.

A student willing to take Zoology Honours must secure 50% in English in H.S. or equivalent Examination.

Students seeking admission to the 1st year degree classes should take note of the following :

The last date for the submission of the admission forms should be rigidly maintained.
Merit list will be published on time and this will be followed by counselling by different departments. Time and day will be duly notified. The dates of counselling should be strictly maintained. The students who have decided their choice of subject after counselling must take their admission on the very day of counselling. If any deserving candidate’s name is inadvertently left out from the list, he or she should immediately contact the Principal for rectification before the counselling.

In respect of admission the college authority reserves the right to make final decision without being answerable to any outside person, agency etc.

On the date of admission all the original documents should be produced.

All admissions are provisional.

The admission of the S.C./S.T./O.B.C-A / O.B.C-B /Physically Challenged candidates is regulated by Government norms. Special consideration in admission may be made to those students having outstanding performance in games and sports. These candidates should furnish attested copies of S.C. / S.T. / O.B.C. certificate, issued by appropriate authority as per the latest Government Order. Physically Challenged Candidates must attach attested copies of relevant documents from the competent authority.

Migration
Students coming from other universities / other states or outside India, if admitted, must produce a Migration Certificate within One Month of Admission.

The students from Bangladesh (who fulfil the criteria) may be admitted provided they obtain Indian Citizenship Certificate or produce students’ visa issued by appropriate authority. Proper evidence should be furnished during the time of admission.

The Principal has the authority to reject any application for admission, without showing reasons, in the interest of the college.

Process of Admission to M.Sc. Courses:-

M.Sc. Courses in Microbiology, Electronic Science, Chemistry, Physics & Computer Science.

Process of online admission to M.Sc. Course in Microbiology, Electronic Science, Chemistry, Physics & Computer Science start on June/July in every year.

The applications are to be submitted through online and no printed form will be available. Application fees may be remitted in any branch of Axis Bank or paid online by internet banking or debit / credit card bank transfer and NEFT.

Eligibility Criteria for M.Sc. Courses:-

Microbiology – B.Sc. (Hons) with Microbiology
Electronic Science – B.Sc. (Hons) with Electronics or Physics
Chemistry – B.Sc. (Hons) with Chemistry
Physics – B.Sc. (Hons) with Physics
Computer Science – B.Sc. (Hons) with Computer Science

Merit list would be prepared strictly on the basis of marks secured by the candidate in the respective Honours subject in the last qualifying examination.

Reservation of seats :
Reservation for SC/ST / OBC-A / OBC-B and physically challenged candidates as per Govt. rule and University guideline.

Procedure for Admission to M.Sc. Courses:-

Attested copies of SC/ST/OBC certificate should be furnished issued by appropriate authority as per the latest Government Order . Physically Challenged Candidates must attach attested copies of relevant documents from the competent authority.

Students seeking admission to P. G. courses should take note of the following:
The last date for the submission of the admission form should be rightly maintained.
Merit list will be published on time and this will be followed by counselling by different departments. Time and day will be duly notified. The date of counselling should be strictly maintained. The students who pass the counselling must take their admission on the very day of counselling.

3. No candidates would be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 2 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular course of study after passing the last qualifying examination, the year of admission will not be taken into account while calculating 2 years of passing the last qualifying examination.
